Default Tire Rotation

Need some help with this topic!! My wife has an 07 EX-L. i tried to rotate the tire the other day but was not successful. I put my jack at the jack point but then i was not sure where to put the jack stands i did not want to ruin anything. i finally put the jack stand under the rear crossmember, but did not feel comfortable with it there so i just aborted the mission! any help would be great.

Check the link above. That is where you put the the jack stand to jack up the car and use the floor jack to place at four points under the car (Two on the driver's side and two on the pass. side. Check in the owner's manual). Don't ever get under the car with the jack stand only.

Thanks NJGuy

$30 for tire rotation, what a ripoff.
Before I didn't know the jacking points and didn't have jack stand, I used the emergency stand (came with car) and spare time for rotating. Took awhile though.

Tire Plus (http://www.tiresplus.com/) offers free tire roatation with oil change (not any more expensive than other places).

Seems like a good deal. The only concern I would have would be the techs over-torquing the lug nuts. With the exceptions of Costco and my Honda dealer, every other place I've taken my car where they removed the wheels has over-tightened the lug nuts. Just be sure to check them afterward if you happen to go that route.

Default tire rotation

I recommend to take your vehicle to any reputible car care center or local mechanic that can rotate the tires for you if all you have is the vehicle's jack. If you have the proper jacks, jack stands and torque wrench, then by all means do it yourself. One more thing, no matter who you take the vehicle to for tire rotation, always re-torque the lug nuts as soon as you get home. THis can be done with just the vehicles jack. Good luck.

Did you mean to say -It can be done with just a vehicle's wrench.
Don't think you need to jack up the car tighten lug nuts.

He means to properly torque them with a torque wrench, which should be done with the wheel unloaded.

Default tire rotation

ctobio, thanks for clearing that up for me. You're right, you can use the cars jack to unload the wheel, then loosen all of the lug nuts, on the unloaded wheel, with the vehicles wrench and properly re-tighten with a torque wrench. (Proper torque settings found in the owners manual).

Sorry, no more Tires Plus for me. The local one cross-threaded 3 lug nuts on on 2 different trips for me. Sometimes 'free' just isn't worth it.

FWIW, Discount Tire does free rotations.

steelersfan: how do you torque the nuts on an unloaded wheel when it can spin freely?

I can wedge my boot underneath, and you'd be surprised how well that works. Alternatively, a brick will also work.
