Default Air Filter change?

Does anyone know how to remove the air filter underneath the hood? I'm a complete idiot when it comes to this stuff & would appreciate any assistance. Thank you!

If you have a 2003-2008 then you just undo the 4 screws holding down the lid to the airbox, lift lid, take out old filter, replace with new one, tighten screws and you're set. I'm sure it's the same with the 2009 also.

thanks humanoid! Saw the screws but wasn't sure if I had to mess with anything else. I'll give it a try later.

IIRC, magnetic screwdriver helps. I believe the screws are not captive, but I might be remembering right.

I would suggest using a rachet with a long extension as opposed to a screwdriver. Mine were on super tight. I believe the screws are 8mm.

For sure use a socket and extention. Mine were on real tight. Also lube them so they don't stick next time. They seem to attract lots of moisture there.

Mine were also tight, rusted right in . Long story short, I ended up getting a new air filter box (bottom section only). Its a good idea to lube the bolts when you put them back in.

Like in the other Hondas I've seen, the screws are captive; so you won't need the magnetic screwdriver.

Default air filter for 2003 pilot

Where's best place to purchase an OEM air filter for '03 Pilot? Can you get an original one for less than dealer price?

Why do gung ho about OEM? Most aftermarket air filters that aren't K & N are just as good.

Anyway, if you want OEM, try our forum sponsor.

I haven't seen anyone post any close up photos of the air filter housing. Here's a photo of the engine bay. I drew a box around the air filter's location. Just pop open the hood and take a close look at that spot, and you should see the four screws there.

Just changed mine, ordered it online from Tim.

The screws were captive and unlike others were not to tight at all.
