Default Transfer case 06 model

I have a seperate transfer on my 06, not attached to tranny (different from 03-05). Takes a gear oil (VTM-4 AS STATED IN MANUAL) has anybody changed this? It seems more like a front differential. I was on Ridgeline Owners Club site and they claim to use 80-90 wt, not a mention of VTM-4). Maint sched in book states to replace if needed when changing tranny fluid. Thanks.

Don't think it takes VTM-4 which is a totally different fluid designed for the electronic clutch packs in the rear differential. I have the shop manual in front of me and it clearly specifies hypoid gear oill (GL4 or GL5), either 90W or 80W-90.

It is supposed to changed along with the tranny fluid when sub-item "3" appears on the MM system.

It takes 80-90W GL-% I used mobil 1 full synthetic. takes less than a quart.

Default Thanks

I sometimes wonder about the fluids, as the Owners Manual seems to state VTM-4 in the Transfer. I do not have the O.M. in front of me, however. I will have to look into the Service Manual. Thanks again. Is there a way an 06 Service Manual page on the Transfer case could be posted with the said g80-90 wt? I would appreciate it.

Default Must be the Summer heat

I swore it said VTM4 in the transfer in the O.M., but its 80-90 IN the transfer, (not red), so, thats done. Thanks again guys. I also sucked my tranny fluid up through the dipstick w/ a marine inboard oil extractor to change it, works great!

Default Pictures please!

Can someone please post a picture of the transfer case and the drain/fill bolts? I'm not exactly sure where it's located and I don't want to take any chances. I did a search but couldn't find anything. Thanks!

The transfer case is attached to the transmission. See the following on the Acura MDX:

For the Pilot which bolt exactly is the drain bolt? I haven't had a chance to look yet but would like to do it shortly. I inserted the picture from the MDX forum.

It's the one on the bottom of the transfer case, right next to the catalytic converter (left side of that picture).

Hopefully you make sure that the fill bolt is easily extracted BEFORE removing the drain bolt. Sure it seems like common sense but I'll bet most people pull the drain prior to ensuring the fill is easily removed and reasonably accessible for refilling.
