Castrol Transmission Fluid

I know this may be a hot potato but I will ask.
I have read thisngs on the web on boths sides of this debate, but I will ask here.
Has anyone used castrol Transmission Fluid that is meant for Honda's as clearly stated in their literature?
If so how was it?

I am asking because i want to DIY my own fluid and the Castrol product is less pricy than the Honda product, like 50% the cost. All things being equal I am not a cheap person but I would rather change the fluid twice as frequently for the same cost as changing it once in the same mileage. Overall wouldn't it be better to change it more than to change it less?

Opinions would be appreciated.

I can get Castrol at any Walmart on any day of the week vs Honda fluid Monday to Friday only at the Honda Dealer.

You may find a member or two here who have tried the Castrol ATF, but I highly doubt it. Many of the members here have the mentality that they don't want to risk damage to the transmission by using anything other than the Honda fluid.

It looks like you might be the guinea pig here if you try it. You also might want to check some other various Honda and Acura forums. Maybe you'll find a couple people on those sites who have tried it. Good luck.

This will not affect my warranty as there is none.

The question is this,
is it better to drain it all and have a 100% fluid change or is it best to drain just the the transmission and change about 1/3 or 1/2 of what is in the entire system?
i only say this as i would still get the so called benefits of the honda fluid with a partial change until such time as enough changes were done. albeit it would be 50/50 castrol/honda for the first one it would eventually be all castrol after 3 changes or so i guess.

i just cannot imagine that castrol would create and sell a product that would damage a honda transmission that easily.

i will do some more reading on this one before i commit.

My husband and I have tried the castrol fluid for one of our Hondas. WE own 3 of them. The castrol is supposed to be formulated for them but we did notice that the vehicle did not shift as well when we use the Honda fluid. The formulation is not the same as hondas. Also none of our hondas have warranties either

I just find it hard to believe that there would be that much difference. Could you please confirm what type of "honda" you used the castrol in and if it was a 100% complete fluid change or if it was a partial.

in our 2003 Honda Accord and it was a full change.
