Air Filter Questions
Somewhat new to the board so I apologize if these questions have been asked before:
1. The maintenance book for my 07 Pilot EX-L lists both an "air cleaner element" and a "dust and pollen filter." Am I right that the air cleaner element is the air filter in the engine while the dust and pollen filter is the cabin air filter? 2. Is it advisable to only change the engine air filter when the maintenance reminder says so or should I replace it every year as some websites I see recommend. Car is driven by my wife for errands around town and the occasional family trip. Just trying to figure out when I should be changing this. Thanks for any advice you can give. |

Answers to your questions.... #1.... Yes, you are correct sir. #2.... I don't know, mine is an '04, no maintanence minder. If there is a mm for the filter, then just do what is suggests. If no mm, maybe another '07 owner can give some advice.

i replace my air filter according to the maintenance minder. i'm sure it would not hurt to have it replaced every year, but you might not need to. i would just follow the mm.

I inspect the air filter at every oil change. If it appears excessively dirty, I'll change it. Judgment call here.

If you live on a gravel road or have some reason to believe that your air filter may see more dust than average, I'd change it ever 10K or so, but otherwise, just stick to what the MM says. For an average suburban Pilot that almost never sees any non-paved driving whatsoever, the MM is probably conservative and you could actually go longer.
