Default New Pilot service

Hi,

My Pilot is about a month old. I tried to figure out when the first service is due fro the owners manuel but wasn't able to. My accord had to be serviced every 15 k miles plus oil change every 3500 miles. Is this the same for the pilot, or should I drive ittill the maintenance minder comes on?

Thx

Wait for the Maintenance Minder to light up and then take it in to get serviced or do it yourself. It's what the MM is for so use it. Welcome to HP.org!

Do what the maintenance minder says. That's what it's there for.

For most folks, the 3000 mile oil change is a myth.

My Pilot has a 20 minute highway commute every day and gets oil changes at 6500, roughly. Even the first one.

The first oil change is critical because rumor has it that it contains a special break-in oil that shouldn't be changed any earlier than necessary.

Welcome to HP.org!

The MM will keep up with when it needs to be serviced.

I have just over 16K on mine now and both oil changes have been right at 7200 miles each time.

I have a 2007 Pilot and have changed the oil every (2) months - it happens to be around 5800 miles in between each change. I have been hearing a rattle noise & when I brought it to the dealer they said it is in the motor and they are going to have to have a Honda Specialist come and look @ it to see if it has been due to low oil on my part - which I will be responsible if that is the case. The vehicle has only 24,000 miles on it and has been consistantly changed every two months. Any ideas?

Why do you stretch the oil changes to 15k when Honda says 7500 at most?
Thats going to hurt the engine in the long term. The oil must be like sludge

BMEYER292 - Mine doesn't use oil-but I always check the level after a service to make sure its at the full mark. It rarely is. Do you check the oil after a service?

I don't check the oil - they normally show me on the stick that it reads full though.

I don't have my manual since the dealer has my vehicle - what is the recommended oil change on this vehicle by the manufacturer?

Mobil 1 5W/30 "extended performance" is fully synthetic and is actually made to last up to 15,000 miles and is the one probably used by BMW. I usually keep it up to +/- 14,000-14,500 miles and this would be my 3rd oil change past the 100K mark using it without any issues.

Since you have no warranty on the Honda anymore feel free to change the oil however often or not that you wish.

You can even go without ever changing it if you wish.

I would never do that though as I live in Texas and oil just doesn't last that long here. It doesn't matter if it is dino or syn it isn't going to stay in any of my vehicles that long.

I wouldn't even venture that thought.
