Default Power steering fluid change needed?

Hi all -

I recently installed the Honda power steering cooler and an aftermarket transmission fluid cooler so I can tow my pop up camper. In removing the old PS cooler, I noticed the fluid was a dark tan color. Refilling the reservoir, the Honda PS fluid is almost clear. Does the PS fluid get dirty/burnt/sheared enough to require changing at any particular interval, or is the color change nothing to worry about? I have no negative symptoms or anything, I just like my Pilot and want to keep it in top form for as long as possible. Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

John

I don't like discolored fluids, but would go by smell.

If it is at all brunt smelling I would change it.

If it is dark enough to not be transparent, or if it is cloudy at all, I would change it.

If it is just ambered a bit and if clear and smells normal, I would not worry.

How does new power steering fluid smell?

EDIT: What should the fluid smell like?

I'll do a blindfolded smell comparison test between the existing fluid and the remainder of a new bottle that I have. Take the Honda Power Steering Fluid Challenge today! :-D

I thought almost everyone who plays with cars knows what burnt ATF or power steering fluid smells like.

It smells "Burnt"!
