The 2004 Honda manual mentions oil changes every 7,500 miles - If I have my oil changed at Firestone using conventional (non synthetic) , is it still 7,500 miles between oil changes
Thanks |

if you live in the country, and do not experience driving in traffic, and the outside air temperature ranges between 32 - 85 degrees F, as well as each trip exceeds 15 minutes, then the answer is.................yes. if anything other than specified above, then I refer you to humanoid's reply for the "severe" conditions.

To answer your question, "yes". But i reconmend using MOBIL 1 full sythetic oil because you can feel the car taking off smoother and the egin burn quieter. It does cost more ofcourse. |

Senator, I've seen sarcasm, and that wasn't sarcasm (with all due respect to Lloyd Bentsen).

I've used synthetics for years in all my vehicles, and I have never noticed any performance differences between the two. As for the original question- the answer is "it depends" just as others have posted. If you are at all unsure if severe or normal is inappropriate for you, have an oil analysis run at 3500 miles and see what you get. It'll be worth the $20 to find out what your oil change interval should be, if you're so intrigued.

The owners manual look at oil as oil is oil. The difference is how you drive and where you drive most times.
Severe service: Drive less than 5 mile trips in freezing tempertures, drive less than 10 miles on a daily bases. Drive in temperatures higher than 90F or 32C. Idle for long periods of time in stop and go traffic. Tow a trailer, drive with a roof rack, drive in the mountains, drive in muddy, dusty, or deiced roads. If you drive less than 3500 miles per year, change the oil once a year.
