I have read that the Pilot has no scheduled tune-ups for 100,000+ miles. I have heard that the newer Honda vehicles, like my 2006 Pilot, have special spark plugs, which are designed to last ~100,000 miles. Call me old fashioned, but I find it hard to believe that a spark plug would hold up that long. What about carbon buildup? Most vehicles that I have owned got a new set of plugs every 30,000 miles. Even when I used the Bosch Platinum +4 plugs, they looked ready to be replaced after 30,000 miles.
Has anyone here actually gone for 100,000 or more miles on the factory spark plugs? If someone did, what did they look like after that long? |

I see no reason why OEM plugs should not last 100K miles. I used the Bosch Platinum plugs in my Subarus years ago and would go over 100K on a set.

I found one post using the search function where someone went 107,000 miles before putting in new spark plugs. I guess this not so old dog (hey, I'm only 40) will have to get used to all this high tech stuff. Anyway, I am truly surprised that a set of plugs would last this long.
Perhaps I should modify my question to state: Has anyone had to replace their plugs prior to 100,000 miles due to maintenance issues? |

I remember when Cadillac proclaimed the 100K plug change on its Northstar engines in the early 90s. We all thought it was crazy
Still, that's getting to be the norm now, and I can't ever recall having to replace the plugs early on any vehicle with that service interval.... |

Just had my 105k service done on the Accord V6 and the plugs looked like they were still in great condition.
They are about $20-$25 each....so I guess they should last that long. There is definitely no need to change them any sooner.
