Did you use a similar type funnel set-up in order to fill the transmission from the dip stick hole?

I actually used a turkey baster with a funnel in the end of it. It fit inside the dipstick hole and worked like a charm. Of course my wife was not happy with my ingenuity, but I replaced it for her and now have an easy way to top off the fluid. But for the change, I do think that the transmission full hole worked a bit better as far as fluid going in (once I got the bolt loose). It was super tight on there.

I thought I was going to break something when I loosened the transmission drain bolt. It was on the "SUPER TIGHT." So i decided to not even deal with the fill bolt.

Yeah, I thought it was going to get ugly trying to get mine loose. Next time, I may just fill it through the dipstick hole. However, I also hold out hope it will be easier to loosen next time.

The dealer may not be the cheapest place to the the Z1 Transmission fluid but after you pay for shipping from the online Honda stores you might as well get it from your dealer.
Here are a couple places.
http://www.handaaccessories.com/pilmaint.html
http://www.bernardiparts.com/Product...NDA-TRANSFLUID (this is the cheapest site sor far....$4.65 a qt.
Since you HAVE TO USE HONDA ATF Z1 in accordance with your service manual and your owners manual, you are limited to where you can buy the Z1. (my intentions are not to turn this into debate over using OEM fluid or aftermarket stuff).

I hope this helps.

When i did the fluid change i used the dipstick tube.
But i found an alternative fluid, Castreoil makes an import tranni fluid with the Z1 comparison. I found it at Autozone for about 4 bucks a quart.

I wouldn't mess with anything but the Honda Z1 stuff.

I thought even with Honda's Z1, it's still recommended to flash it?
I bought 6 bottles of those for my change and was thinking about flashing.

Thanks for the great DIY instruction. I will bookmark it for my change soon.

You can do the complete flush, Drain and Fill....drive around for a few miles, using all gears so the fluid from the convertor is transferred into the transmission for draining. Then do this all over again, a total of three times, as per our owners manual.

My recommendation is to do a drain and fill everytime you do an oil change. Everytime I change my Mobil 1 5W20 I also do a single drain and fill. This keeps the fluid nice and clean year round. Others on this forum follow this maintenance practice too. Best of luck with your Drain and fill ( or flush if you choose that.)

WHAT I WOULDN"T CHOOSE is the CASTROL "equivalent." There is no equivalent transmission fluid to the HONDA Z-1. If there see what Honda would say about it. They will allow you to put Mobil 1 in the engine but try to see if they will let you put this CASTROL equivalent tranmission fluid in your Pilot. I and many others would like to know.

This is Castrols specs on the tranni z1 compatable fluid, but it does spec that it should not be used with CVT's. Well i don't know what that is and i can't find anything that says our pilots fall under this category.
Maybe someone that is more pilot savvy can say.
