Just completed this on my newly purchased (used) 2004 Pilot. It has 93k miles on it and this was the first time having the filter replaced! (the plastic bar had not been cut)

I've seen some nasty filters before, but this was pretty bad. There was all kinds of damp goo on the filter and inside the slot where the filter goes. Thanks for the walkthrough!

EWWWWW!!!!

GROSS!!!!!!!!

Immediately assume NO other maintenance has been done. Get some VTM 4 fluid from the Honda dealer, plus a crush washer and replace. Then on to the auto box etc.

Yeah, pretty nasty stuff. I did the oil last weekend and bought 12q of tranny fluid to do a drain/fill x3 and fresh VTM4 fluid and crush washers for both.

Everything feels tight, no grinding or misbehaving -- but never can be too safe with these things...

Has anybody made the mistake of removing the bottom screw on the right side and dropping the glove box?

I just bought an ATP carbon infused filter, there are no arrows on the filter at all. I've got an 07 pilot, anyone have any ideas if the carbon infused side should face the right or left side? Thanks

Note the position of the "grab tab" on the filter you pull out and replicate with the new filter.

Default Puralator Cabin Filter Replacement instructions-disconnect battery first!

After reading this forum and deciding to DIY my 05 Pilot EXL Navi cabin air filter, I purchased a Purolator filter and found these installation instructions inside. Thought I would share these instructions with the forum, particularly since they mentioned something important that I did not see noted: to disconnect the battery neg post and allow 3 minutes for the passenger air bag system backup capacitor to discharge, to make sure it does not get activated while replacing the cabin filter. Sure would be an expensive and possibly lethal job if it were activated in one's face.

Changed mine recently without disconnecting the battery, without any problems. No mention of this in the Bosch instructions.

That's just ludicrous. You aren't even messing with the airbag, why would you need to undo the battery cable?

I'm gonna try to do mine this week.

I don't plan on disconnecting the battery, but I'll be sure to be careful and mind the airbag wiring.

Also, why isn't this thread a "Sticky" yet?

thats corporate covering their butts. there are a couple connectors for the SRS system in that area so they put that in there so just in case, in the extreme event that someone does this with the key in the run position and shorts the wiring to the extent that it deploys the airbags, the customer cant come back and sue them.
