To be sure what is covered and what is not covered, obtain a speciman copy of the warranty contract to read what your benefits are. NEVER rely on what the salesman tells you.

From just the short description and pricing, I'd guess that it's not a HondaCare warranty. I'd be very leery of any other "aftermarket" coverage. Just put the $1600 in a CD or money market to pay for any repairs that are needed in the future.

I would also be very leery of "aftermarket" warranties. The exclusions and restrictions can be onerous. Most extended/aftermarket warranties are poor values.

You are outside the factory warranty, so the service contract you are looking at is probably not backed by Honda (i.e., not HondaCare). Unless you happen to be purchasing a Honda Certified Used vehicle.

Like the others said, read through the coverage booklet for restrictions, requirements, and deductibles. A warranty that "covers anything that goes wrong" does not exist. Even the genuine HondaCare service contract (new and used) has a long list of items not covered after the factory warranty expires and the "extended warranty" takes over (mostly cosmetic and finish items).

Read the warranty closely. The one experience I had with a non-manufacturer extended warranty was bad. The oil change interval specified was 3000 miles. Every time you had the oil changed you had to have the people changing it record the details in a warranty book. Twice I was 100 miles late in changing the oil. Then the A/C compressor failed. I made a claim; it was refused because of the oil change mileage overrun. You ask what an A/C failure had to do with being late on oil changes?????

My question too; never got a straight answer.

Never again.

On my 2003 Pilot, I go the 60K extended warranty on the drivetrain from Honda. Honda replaced an engine with 3K to go on the warranty. Their cost $6000; my cost $50 deductible plus $1500 warranty cost.
