Default Front Caliper Torque Specs - Need ASAP

Can I get the torque specs for the 4 bolts (14 and 17 mm) holding the caliper together on a 2003 Pilot? Thanks-

You will probably have to make some assumptions based on size and material.

They are not in the service manual.

According to my factory manual...

Caliper bolts (8mm):
27 lb-ft
Caliper Carrier bolts (12mm):
79.6 lb-ft

Holding the caliper on? or holding the caliper together?

I should qualify all this- it's the spec for the 2006. I don't know if the spec has changed since 2003, so, please doublecheck what a 2003 uses.

The 27 lb-ft is the spec for the bolt that threads into the caliper pins, this bolt goes through the caliper mounting ears. The 79 lb-ft is for the bolts that hold the caliper carrier onto the steering knuckle, which you have to only remove to get the rotor off.

I agree that it seems low, but that's what the book is telling me.

I'd still put some blue Loctite on these bolts. It's the brakes, after all.

I'm wondering if putting LocTite on a caliper bolts is a good idea. The brake assembly can get very hot, and the LocTite may not be designed for that. Might be a good idea to stick with what the manual lays down.

Of course, you may know something these engineers missed.

The specs sound right...I got the job done. Thanks for the quick reply.

I would not use Loctite on the bolts. They are hard enough to get off w/o the Loctite.

I had the Brembos cut as they were warping at 30K. I am going to have the rear rotors cut as well. They are at 90K.

My '03 VW Passat requires it, actually, or you can buy the bolts from the dealership with the Loctite already on them.

Blue Loctite breaks down at 450 deg F. If the area got this hot, your brake fluid has already begun to boil.

At any rate, in this particular application it is not required according to the book, I see it as more of a "if it helps you feel better" situation.

Per the manual for my '06:

41 ft-lbs for the caliper carrier bolts
27 ft-lbs for the caliper pin bolts
