Question Maintenance Minder "History"?

Hi all, I just bought a used 2006 Pilot on Saturday and I'm getting used to it. I've owned 3 other cars in my life and they've all been Camaro's. I kept the most recent one as a 3rd car with 140,000 miles on it, and I drive cars until they fall apart.

Being that way, I tend to be careful on the maintenance. My problem is that I don't know what maintenance the previous owners performed or when they performed them. The service record was in the glovebox but it does not have anything written in it. The Pilot had 19,500 miles on it when I bought it.

I was hoping that there is a way to plug into the computer in the Pilot and read which MM codes had been thrown and when the MM had been reset, so I could at least get a guess at what they might have done and when they might have done it as far as maintenance is concerned. The oil reads 70% right now and looks decent, a little dark maybe, the trans fluid looks okay to me. I called Honda, but apparently their maintenance records are not kept on one system. My Honda dealer can only look up maintenance done at their dealership, not others. Does anyone have any wisdom on this? Other than buy brand new.

Under the '03-05 Pilot severe schedule you would have done a VTM-4 fluid change at 15,000, and an oil change at 18,750.

If you don't figure way to get the info you need, you could do these and reset the MM, comfortable in the knowledge that you're on your own schedule.

Thanks Jay, yeah I thought I could do that also, but I am curious if there is a way to read the MM history.

Anyway, I have a front wheel drive so there is no VTM change for me, and the oil is reading 70%. I suppose I could take the console apart and take a look at the cabin filter to see if that's been done.

kramerd1506,

What did you pay for your pilot, I am curious because I just bought an 04 with 28K on it. I am in the same boat as you with trying to figure out the maintenance history. So far the only thing I have found out was from registering on hondas "owners link". It told me where the honda was originally sold from (dealer) I am changing the transmission fluid and the VTM-4 tomorrow.

Thanks Duane

I don't recall anyone ever asking this question before or anyone saying they could do this.

IF it can be done, it would be with proprietary Honda software that only the Dealership would have. And the only reason I could think that Honda would bother to include such a feature would be so they could show that the owner failed to follow factory recommended service as a basis for denying warranty claims. Sooooo, if a feature does exist, Honda is never going to tell us about it.

Anyway, the Pilot doesn't even have a trip computer or any user selectable features (something owners would use daily), so I doubt it has any electronics for keeping the maintenance history (something owners would use once or twice in the lifetime of the vehicle).

I've never heard of the MM system having a log of when it was reset.

I recently bought a 2003 Pilot with 57,000 miles on it. I purchased a Carfax report that had all of the dates of dealer service and the name of the dealership. I called the dealership with the VIN, and they were happy to tell me what was done on each date.
