Since my '06 Pilot doesn't have an easily replaceable transmission fluid filter, about six months and 10K miles ago with about 5K miles on it at the time, I decided to put an after-market in-line transmission fluid filter in the transmission cooler line.
Since I don't have a history on how long to leave the filter in place, I replaced it after only 10K miles. And, I opened up the old filter to see how much debris was in it. Actually, I thought there would be more in it. But, there was enough to tell me that I am glad I put a filter in place. It had some "fuzzies" trapped in the filter media, plus some fine metallic dust on the internal filter magnet. My guess is I could leave the filter in place for about 20K miles with no worries. I also took the in-line filter apart that I have had in the power steering return line on my truck for at least 25K miles. It had lots of "fuzzies" and a significant amount of metal chunks (not dust size). I am very glad I decided to put a power steering filter in it. Since the Pilot steering rack is much more difficult to replace, I am definitely going to put an in-line filter in the power steering.

Do you have pictures on where you installed the inline filter? I'm very interested in doing both the tranny and ps filters and would like to see where you put the tranny filter.
Thanks

This is the filter I use:
http://www.spxfiltran.com/products/atm_filter.asp If your vehicle has less than 5K miles on it, most professionals recommend putting it in the transmission cooler line where the fluid is going from the transmission to the transmission cooler. If your vehicle has over 5K miles, then the recommendation is in the transmission cooler line where the fluid is returning from the transmission cooler back to the transmission. Many pros consider it a requirement if a rebuilt transmission is put in to prevent the debris in the transmission cooler from getting into the newly rebuilt transmission. The local Honda Service Manager considers this a requirement when they install a rebuilt transmission.
