Well..... I've had the shudder at 50mph for months now and finally threw the VTM-4 and engine lights on last week over vacation. Dealer just called and it's a good thing I was sitting down at the laptop. $550 total. $130 or so is the r&r of the bad egr valve which was throwing the vtm-4 light he says and the whopper is the code coming from the engine light trip. 4 hours labor for cleaning the ports, and I'm balancing the tires on top of that bringing the total to $550.
Of course there is nothing on extended coverage on the EGRs on the 04s. I asked what's my fallout if I choose not to clean the ports. He answered he gives the new egr valve 6 months life until it needed replaced again. Supposed to be a top notch service dealer. Sound legit guys Oh yeah.... I'm pushing 70K miles on my 04.

The prices sounds Okay for dealer work, but I try and confirm that a bad EGR valve can cause four hours of "cleaning parts". What parts?
And somewhat educate me: What has the EGR system go to do with a VTM-4 light coming on? - Mark |

However, I was surprised to see that we have an unlimited warranty on the muffler, A and B pipes.

I would find a good local Honda mechanic working at private shop. The part will run about the same, but usually the labor rate per hour will be 60-70 percent lower. My mechanic Mark usually just charges a flat fee for his time, he usually likes $100.00 or $125.00 plus parts. So, he is always way cheaper than the Honda shop.

My last SUV had the catalytic converter go bad at about 50k miles, but I was glad to find out that there was a federally (?) mandated 80k mile warranty. However, the muffler wasn't covered. Luckily, the Dealer determined that the muffler had gone bad because the catalytic converter was spitting its guts into the muffler so they replaced the muffler anyway.
