If the check engine light comes on, and it gets cleared, will the light come on again if the problem persists?
The reason I'm asking is because not long ago the check engine light came on on my car (not the Pilot). I took it in to have the code read, and they said that a sensor (can't remember which exactly) was malfunctioning and needed to be replaced. They said that they would need to order the sensor, so I picked up my car. When I picked it up, I noticed that they had cleared the code, as the engine light was no lit anymore. Since that time, the light has not come back on. I'm debating whether or not to still have the sensor replaced or should I just wait until the light comes on again. The mechanic told me that the problem would only affect gas mileage... no damage would result if I do not replace the sensor.
