Default 105,000 mile service

What are people paying for the replacement of the timing belt?

What are people paying for the Valve adjustment?

What are people paying for the replacement of the spark-plugs?

I paid $800.00 for the timing belt which included a new water pump. New Spark Plugs, Valve adjustment, New Air and Cabin Filters, Flushed the brake fluid and Power Steering fluid and then a oil change VTM-4 and automatic transmission fluid change ran $400.00 so the total bill was $1200.00 this included sales tax of 8.5 percent.

Just out of curiousity N_jay, are you already at 105K or getting close to it? From what I've read on the forum, you seem quite capable of tackling this service yourself

But ~$1200 seems about right for all of the services mentioned by rockman19762001, you're looking at about $600 in parts alone.

Did I read that right, $400 for those three services? Seems very high.

I had forgotten about the VTM-4 and automatic transmission fluid also being done and edited it in the list of other services in that sentence.
New Spark Plugs, Valve adjustment, New Air and Cabin Filters, Flushed the brake fluid and Power Steering fluid and then a oil change VTM-4 and automatic transmission fluid change ran $400.00, this entire list of work cost $400.00 dollars.

If I recall correctly, I think my timing belt replacement was about $350 Canadian, which did not include the water pump. However, the water pump is $87 from Majestic Honda site, so $800 seems a bit high.

That's a good deal for $400. $800 for a timing belt and water pump replacement seems high, but then again, I haven't had that service done yet. I might not be looking forward to it. Come on Honda, timing chains in your new engines.

The timing belt is the only thing I have not liked about Hondas, but many of the imports use timing belts. So, when you buy a new Honda, you are signing up for at least one repair bill running into hundreds of dollars. All I can tell you is that my local independent mechanic that I use for all my repairs on any car or truck I own. Would not take on replacing the timing belt, He said removing one of the nuts on the crank case spindle or something like that (I am not a mechanic). Was a 1 1/4" nut or something big like that and he never wanted to mess with another Honda timing belt ever again. Mark the mechanic said take it to Honda, you will be much happier with the work and the bill. Mark up to that point has never not wanted to work on any car or truck I owned. So, I thought if he did not want to do it I would go with his recommendation.

I think the K series engines have timing chains.

actually the timing belt is a fairly easy task for the somewhat mechanically inclined. However one major point already spoken sort of,

The crankshaft pulley bolt is a muther%#$%()$% to get loose. In fact I yet have been able to get it done with a wrench or lets say you need a high powered impact gun.

But if you take your Honda to a qualified quality Honda repair center which many towns have them ( X-Honda Dealer Employees that got tired of Honda and the main manager screwing them over) Honda Repair shops, They do these on a daily bassis. I think a V-6 timing belt change is $500.00 OTD including waterpump, crank and cam seals. He only charges $25 to $30.00 to do the VTM-4 fluid replacement. But he did say he would never do a trailer hitch install on the Pilot, he stated the coolers can be a pain to replace and honda allows not much time for the $$ to do the entire install.

I would think $800 to $900.00 should be a norm for the 105,000 service.

An ody owning friend decided to trade his 100k mile vehicle rather than pay the cost of that service. He bought another ody for 40k and is as happy as a clam.

Angry $2180.35 Quote for 105K Service!

I e-mailed a service manager at the Honda Dealership I have used since I bought my 2003 HP in 2002 for a quote on the 105K service, including the timing belt, water pump, 3 belts, etc. I am including his response. I am amazed at how high this quote is. Has anyone else seen anything close to this?

Here is the Dealer's quote, which itemizes the services to be performed:

Question

I am up to the 100k service on my 2005 Honda Pilot.

This is what I am considering for the 100k service (sorry for the caps).

100K HONDA PILOT SERVICE - PER SCHEDULE FOR NORMAL CONDITIONS: (105K)

INSPECT DRIVE BELTS

REPLACE DUST AND POLLEN FILTERS

REPLACE AIR FILTER

REPLACE SPARK PLUGS

INSPECT VALVE CLEARANCE

REPLACE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID

REPLACE VTM DIFFERENTIAL FLUID

INSPECT IDLE SPEED

REPLACE TIMING BELT / INSPECT WATER PUMP

REPLACE ENGINE COOLANT? CHECK SERVICE RECEIPTS

REPLACE BRAKE FLUID? CHECK SERVICE RECEIPTS

PER MY REQUEST:

REPLACE POWER STEERING FLUID

REPLACE THERMOSTAT

REPLACE PVC

CHECK TPMS SERVICE LIGHT ON

RESET GENERAL SERVICE LIGHT ON

I am going to submit estimates to several dealerships in the Colorado Springs/Denver Colorado areas.

I do not know of any reliable independent mechanics here and it is easier for me to just leave it at the dealership and get a free car for the day or two.

Any input or information appreciated.

Cheers

I'm getting my timing belt package done at the honda dealer for $666(what an odd number...)
it includes
Timing Belt Package-replacement of:
-timing belt
-water pump
-all belts
-cam seals
-crank seals
-anti-freeze 1 gallon
-inspect hoses

all the other maintenance services i will be doing them myself because these are realtively quite easy and most of you guys can do it too because there are many DIYs covering it.
-air filter
-Automatic tranny fluid
-oil change +filter
-spark plugs
-cabin air filter

I do have a few questions though:
HTI=how to inspect
1.HTI idle speed?
2. HTI valve clearance?
3. HTI tie rod ends, sterring gearbox, boots
4. HTI driveshaft boots
5.HTI brakes hoses and lines
6.HTI cooling system hoses+connections
7.HTI exhaust system(sounds straight forward though...)
8. HTI fue line and connections?

basically, how do i perform all the "inspect etc" on the 105k service the manual says?
