Default 30,000 mile service for '05 Pilot

Dealer is quoting me about $450 for the 30,000 mile service on my 2005 Pilot. The rear diff inspection is included. This seems really high to me. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

If you're handy with a wrench, you can do all that for less than 1/4 of what the $tealer is asking. Look in the maintenance section in this forum and you will see the DIYs.

Make sure you ask for the specific things identified in the owner's manual due at 30k. ie VTM-4 fluid change, oil change, tire rotation, etc. Do NOT ask for the dealerships "30k service" which will add on hundreds of dollars of unnecessary items.

Hit the local auto parts store for an air filter and cabin filter and do those yourself. Plenty of "DIY" guides on this site to assist.

Buy yourself something nice with the money you saved!

Thanks for the tips. This was a case of me not doing my homework before the odometer hit 30K. I'm going to let the dealer "win" this time, but I will be prepared to do more of this myself by the time I hit the next milestone. Lessons learned.

This has been covered before here but 30k should include:

Oil (if due) $20
Tire rotation (if due) $20
VTM-4 fluid change $50-$80
Cabin air filter $15-$20 DIY, takes 30 min first time and 10 after that OR $100 at dealer
Engine filter $15 or so DYI, takes 5 min

Total low: $130
Total high: $255

Question

Just scheduled an oil and VTM change. Tires dont need it, and I plan on doing the filters.

99 for5 the VTM, and 35 for the oil. THat sounds high to me, no?

Close. Dave Munga****ter Honda in St. Louis. But so far, the work they have done for me has been good. So, I guess it could be worse.

I really just need to buck up for a jack and jack stands, and start doing a bit more myself.

They could be like the local Acura dealer who charged my sister $30 for leather interior treatment. The only catch is she has cloth interior.. For her 60K mile service, they stated they changed the cabin A/C filters, but she later found out they did not. It was a computer glitch that put the service on her receipt. You are right though. It could be worse.

By default I always assume dealerships are out to get you and your money. No such thing as an honest mistake when it comes to them taking my money......which is unfortunate.
