Does my transmission have a filter? I can't see where it does and was told by a "35 year Honda mechanic" that there is none. He also said this transmission can not be power flushed.
Any comments welcome. Great site you have here.

Welcome!!!
I have an 04 also and I'm just about to hit 40k on the odometer. Because I tow a boat on long trips down in really hot deep south Texas, I change my tranny fluid more often than necessary. Read the manual, which explains the drain/fill procedure (3times) to get a good exchange of old fluid. It is just like changing the engine oil. I don't believe there is a filter, at least not one the is serviceable by a backyard mechanic. Someone posted here a while back that there was indeed a filter, but others felt like a removal of the tranny was necessary to get to it. Again, welcome.... we have all sorts of valuable info. here for you to use.

Oh, and don't powerflush per Honda owners manual.
Just change the fluid like they recommend in the manual and you will be fine. I'm about to do my 3rd change in about 5k miles and the fluid looks brand new each time I drain it. Oh well, $75 spent on tranny fluid once a year is well worth the peace of mind for a reliable tranny.

Thanks for the replies.
The Honda service guy did say that 4 times of draining and filling was overkill. He felt 2 times was sufficient if it looked dirty. He did recommend draining and filling process once every 15,000 miles as opposed to the 45,000 mile owner's manual recommendation. I did the drain and fill 3 times this past weekend and I agree, it was a piece of cake. The service department charges 89.00 for a drain and fill. I also drained and filled my rear differential. The service dept. charges 140.00 for that service. My only regret is that I waited this long. I have just under 39,000 miles on it. I'm just outside Chicago and I don't tow with it. Just wish I had found this site earlier. I still have the Integrity tires on it. That will be the next thing. Goodyear Triple Treds or Michelin Cross Terrain.
