The previous change I used the standard Fram filter for the first time and the result was if I wanted to run 10k I should change the filter. The attached was with the "top of the line" Fram. Obviously I will use the best filter because of the extended change as reflected.

PilotNC thanks for sharing. Those look like good numbers. Wondering how come you are using 5w30 instead of the 5w20?

I used the standard, cheap filter only once. My previous samples were all done using the "top of the line" filter and the recommendation was 10k.
The samples were sent out everytime the oil was changed for the first 45k to form a base line then I started to do every other change. Mainly because I'm a C.S.O.B. The 5w-30w has been used since the vehicle was new. The original owners manual recommended it. In my area a lot of places have stopped stocking the gallon conatiners. |

Hi PilotNc,
Here's a report I posted sometime ago. My KMs are just over the 85,000 Mile mark. So it is a good comparo. I have only had 2 samples done. The first one was done with another synthetic from Canadian Tire up here. Not sure who makes it for them. I am a C.S.O.B (but I prefer to be called thrifty!). I also use the cheapest fram on sale. Which is the one used for this test. I got a good deal on some Honda filters, so will use them for the next 3. Being cheap it does hurt to have this oil test done, but at least we know we can stretch the changes longer. Thanks again for posting your results. By the way does your Pilot consume any oil between changes? Going out to shovel snow/ice now.

Filter comment.
The only time I used the less expesive filter I got the comment "if I'm going to run the oil for 10k the filter should be changed once between changes." I will start checking the oil level when I reach 100k or when the garage floor warrents it. That should stirup some comments. |

On a previous report THEY commented that you should change the filter between. Seems odd, as Honda rec commends up to 15K between filters.

John,
Very nice numbers. My first couple of UOA came back with high AL, and I understand the Honda 3.5 is famous for shedding AL, (google bobistheoilguy). My only issue with Blackstone is they don't give you a TBN unless you pay extra. Oilguard includes the TBN in their base price. I'm running 10kmi oil changes, using M1 syn and the larger old stock Honda filters. JT |
