Question How long the engine oil last?

Hi I got my 2006 Pilot at July 2006. I only drive it about 3000miles and maint computer shows me it is still 50% of oil life.

Should I change the oil now? or I should wait for oil life come to 0%. Dealer always told me to change it right away.

I am going to use Valvline Dino oil for my first change. If my mileage is low, how long I should change oil? 6month or just based on the meter?

thanks for any advice

If you are not doing any of the severe driving, then the old lifespan was 1 year.

A subject of lively debate. My opinion is that 6K isn't long with today's oils, especially synthetics. I'd follow the maintenance minder, especially if you're leasing. But never go longer than a year.

Follow the maintenance minder.
If you can trust the engineer who design/make your Pilot, you shuold trust the engineer who design the maintenance minder for your Pilot.

thanks for advice. I own this car, not lease. So we really like to treate it well and save some mileage on it. That make me come out question, Time interval vs Mileage.

I will go with Meter when it show 10% of oil life and less than 1year.

If you're really curious, send in an oil sample to a lab for analysis.
It's only $20, and an additional $10 for a TBN reading. This will not only help you determine how often you should change the oil but, more importantly, how your engine is wearing based on what's found in the oil.

For the same $30 I can get an oil change and not worry.

Like I said earlier, the report tells you more than just how much more life you can get out of your oil.

7500 miles. Period. The 3000 mile mark was made up by oil change companies (Jiffy Lube). Save your money.

What action have you taken on that information?
