Default Am I being taken by the dealer?

I admit I haven't been watching my dealer as closely as I should have. It's Suburban Honda in Farmington Hills, MI. Anyway, they have their own service interval guide. Some of the items are the same as my Pilot's severe schedule, but some just seem ridiculous!

Case in point:
They replaced the coolant at 45K, and want to do it every 30K thereafter (75K, 105K, etc). The severe manual says first change at 10 yrs/120K, then every 5 yrs/60K. What a huge difference!

The other notable difference is changing the brake fluid. The dealer says first change at 45K, then every 30K. The book says every 3 years, regardless of mileage.

All other items: tranny fluid, VTM fluid, etc. are according to the severe schedule. I probably drive somewhere between normal and severe, so I don't mind following the severe schedule. The biggest red flag to me is the coolant schedule.

Interestingly, I don't think they've EVER changed the cabin filter (I'm at almost 60K)! I've been reading here, and I ordered cabin filters for both my Pilot and Accord, and will do those myself.

Default Been there...

and don't go there anymore. I would drive another half hour to avoid using them again. This dealer had no consideration and couldn't seem to fix our issues unless we made a big issue out of it. We also tried buying from them, but the salesman had three other customers he was dealing with at the same time! Run!!!

The service intervals chosen by most Dealers are set to maximize profit (i.e., as much as they can get away with). They usually don't match the Factory recommended intervals or common sense for that matter.

You can still have a Dealer shop do the work, just ask what is included when you call in - don't do it the day you show up for the appointment or you will probably be disappointed and use their service anyway.
