Default oil changes

Do you do the oil changes yourselves, or take it somewhere?

And if you do it yourself, where do you buy your filter, oil, and compression washers, etc.? I'm looking for a good place to order parts online, since I just bought a new '07 Pilot.

Thanks!

I do it myself, I use Honda oem Filtech filters, and have a fumoto drain valve.

The filter is very easy to get to, and I don't have to wait at a dealer.

Not to mention I know that it was done right.............

I do it myself. Ordered the Fumoto, use Amsoil filter and oil. No plans to do an extended change cycle.

I'm still learning here... what's an extended change cycle mean? What's a Fumoto do? Where can I find them easily?

I used to let the dealer change it but since I found out the Pilot doesn't have grease fitting so all there is to do is the filer and oil, I will probably do my own from now on. I had figured it was worth it to let someone else do all the reaching around for the hard to reach fittings but since there are none. why pay for an oil filter lube when they don't lube it?

The manual states that you can either follow the "normal" (7.5k miles) or "severe" (3k miles) maintenance schedule when changing your oil. With some synthetic oils you can extend your drain intervals. Fumoto valve: http://www.fumotovalve.com. Amsoil and related products: Amsoil.com

Go to Walmart, Autozone, Pep-Boys, etc for oil stuff. I buy 5 quarts of synthetic and either a Mobil 1 or Bosch filter. Oil changes occur about every 4-5 thousand miles....

Some people choose to utilize synthetic oil and extend their drain intervals. With "normal" driving, the maintenance minder will direct you to change your oil around 6-8k miles. Some people will go 15k miles between changes. I tend to use synthetic oil and change the oil at the standard interval ~7k miles.

Dark oil doesn't necessarily mean dirty oil. You would need an oil analysis to show that it is dirty.

I believe you are spending money needlessly. My last conventional oil sample at 5k was excellent. Extending my next change to the full 7500 miles and will re-analyze. With synthetic, I would not hesitate to go 10k plus. I do on my BMW and it has 145k. 3000 miles is our father's interval. Oils are much better now.

Using the Fumoto valve on both Hondas, M1 synthetic and 10K mi oil change interval based on used oil analysis. I could easily go longer, but 10K is a nice easy number to remember.
