Default Interesting Maintenance Minder message

Well, it's coming up on time for the second oil change in my '06. The Maintenance Minder came on with the service code "A16."
  • "A" is the code for the oil change.
  • "1" is the code to rotate the tires and check the inflated pressure.
  • "6" is the code to change the VTM-4 fluid.

The interesting part is that I have a 2-WD Pilot! You'd think that the system would know that and not tell me to change that fluid!

It makes me wonder how many dishonest dealers would charge for that service (changing the VTM-4 fluid) even though they did nothing!

Oh, well. It's a nit, but I thought it was worth noting here.

Later,
Larry.

How funny. I'll have to keep an eye out for this and see if my 2wd gives me the same thing.

Perhaps on the 2WD, it means you need to replenish the blinker fluid.

That said... I guess the module handling the maintenance minder is the same across all versions. Good to know.

I wonder if this means the Maintenance Minder for the VTM-4 is just mileage based and does not factor in light or heavy usage?

Unfortunately, based on what was said above, it looks to be the case.

Or it could use the engine usage factors for everything?

That would be my guess. Originally I would have thought it counted how often and at what rate it was locking the VTM clutchpacks. I still don't think it's purely mileage dependent for the VTM. Perhaps the maintenance minder only interfaces with the dashboard and ECM, and no other systems.

I have a 03 Pilot and recently took it to DEQ for tag renewals. It came back with the OBD Sensor status of "UnReady". They were Catalyst, 02 Sensor, and Evaporative. The dealer said that the drive cycles must be reset and the only way to do that is to just drive it. I had a new battery put in over 6 months ago, so I'm not sure why these haven't reset? Has anyone experienced a similar issue and if so how were you able to get the issue resolved?

Usually just a few restarts will reset the codes. Do you know anyone with a scan tool of any sort? They can reset them for you in a hurry!
