Let the dealer take care of it if you're still under warranty. If not, in order to get to the a/c blower motor, you need to remove the dashboard & the evaporator to get to the motor. Be very carefull when working in this area since the SRS components are in the vicinity. Make sure to disconnect the negative cable from the battery & have the radio/Nav security code on hand.

You can try removing the a/c filter & see if there's any debris that's causing the noise. Is the noise constant when a/c is on?

If you suspect debris in the blowers impeller, here's a trick that MAY work. Worked for me.
I just happen to have this little 4 finger grabby thing. Looks like a choke cable. On one end is 4 little spring steel "fingers". at the other is a knob like a choke cable. You hold/operate it like a syringe, between fingers & thumb. NEAT tool. Remove the glove box, get a flashlight, turn the select switch to recirculate. Now you should be able to see the impeller. Reach in & spin it slowly, looking for leaves, mice, whatever. Dig it out with your finger thingy you got at the NAPA/SHUCKS/SEARS/whatever store.

The tool Rapid Rob is talking about is often called a pick up tool. The long part of the body is usually flexible.

Took it to the dealer. It was about one hour worth of labor for them to clean out the blower fan assembly. They did not remove the dash. |

Did they charge you? That's great if they didn't.

Maybe creative was a bad word
I used a 6" flexible shaft and put that in a cordless screw driver. I tried all combos of extensions and such, but nothing I had would work. I went to HD and bought a cheap flex shaft and it was easy. Also, the screws are torx or something odd (can't remember), but they also have a bolt head (hex). Also using a socket made it easier to put them back in since the socket holds the screw for you. You may have to remove the kick panel (I did) to get in there.Overall, a much better design that some of my previous vehicles where major demo was required to get it out of the dash. The housing on the pilot would be hard to remove, but thats just plastic. The motor just bolts onto the bottom of it. The fan will come out attached to the motor also. |
