Exclamation Honda Oil Filter wrench does not fit Honda Oil Filter

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick word of warning. I bought the Honda Oil Filter wrench (part number 07AAA-PLCA-100) and Honda Oil Filters (part number 15400-PLM-A01). But, that wrench just barely doesn't fit the filter. I suppose I could use a rubber mallet to pound it on, but getting it back off may be an issue .

I still need to talk to the Honda dealer where I bought them to see if maybe the wrench they sold me is just a defective unit (I'll post an update once I know more).

So, has anyone else had any issues using the factory oil filter wrench on a factory oil filter? For the oil change I just did (first on my '06 Pilot) I was lucky that I had one of those "universal" wrenches that fit many filters that fit the Honda filter.

Later,
Larry.

I use a metal band strap wrench. Take a filter with you when you shop, because I had a hard time finding a good fit.

I bought the aftermarket filter cup wrench from www.handaccessories.com - was about 1/2 the cost and fits the smaller filters like a charm.

I don't use a wrench at all on the filters for my cars. I just hand tighten them when I install them, and they come off with a little elbow grease. Never had a leaking problem.

Same here, on both my Pilot and the wifes Ody its easy on and easy off. A little used oil on the filter seal and about a half turn past where it easily stops by hand.

Used oil? What's wrong with using some of the new oil?

OK, I just talked to Bill at H and A Accessories (http://www.handa-accessories.com/) about the filter wrench. He said that the Honda wrench does fit tight but will loosen up a bit after being used a few times. He said that when the techs get a new one they will tap them onto a filter, install it and then use a screwdriver or something to tap it off. After being used a bit it does loosen up and doesn't require any tools to get on or off.

So, I asked about their after market one and he said that it does fit looser. So, I'm returning the Honda wrench and he'll send me out the after market one. I don't change the oil often enough to keep the OEM one.

Good luck everyone!
Larry.
