Default Oil Life Indicator

If I take my car to a non-Honda shop to have the oil changed, will the Oil Life Indicator automatically reset? or would that have to be done at the dealership

do a search on the forum, there are posts that tell you how to reset it. Plus, in your manual, it tells you how to reset it.

Just reset the oil indicator yourself, push and hold the button for about 10 seconds while it is on the oil indicator. What I want to know is what are the oil change intervals? I just picked mine up tonight, and the dealer said it was between 6-8k. that seemed a little high for me. what happened to the good old 3k changes?

IIRC the indicator will come on every 7.5K miles. I don't think it's an oil life indicator, but rather a reminder to have your oil changed. With the efficiency of newer engines and motor oils you can go 7.5K with no problems... as long as you fall under the "normal" category that's in the manual.

For the '06 model, Honda went to a maintenance minder system, remember. It's not just a light that comes on at 6000 miles anymore. For oil, the system shows a % of oil life remaining; I presume you change the oil when the percentage left is low.

The oil percentage indicator is still just a "counter", counting the miles gone by. It does not monitor the oil.
To reset:
Key on, engine off, cycle the display to oil % & release the button. When oil % is showing push the button & hold it down until it begins flashing. Release the button & hold it down again until it resets. The two step process takes about 10sec. then 5sec.
I think you'll find "destructions" in the owners manual.

On the subject of the good 'ol days of 3,000 mile oil changes. Oils have gotten better, engines have gotten better. Also market driven competion for customers. "Look honey, this car doesn't need an oil change for 10,000 miles".

I don't think you are correct... The '06 has a new Maintenance Minder System. Found this "for 2006 is a maintenance minder system that notifies the driver when service is required based on driving conditions and oil life rather than on fixed time or mileage intervals and daytime running lamps."

You can also check this: http://autonet.ca/CastleHonda/Servic...tion=ridgeline , or check this: http://honda.gatineauhonda.com/en/se...nance%20Minder

It would appear there are sensors and a computer monitoring driving conditions/heat and adjusting the oil life % accordingly...

Don't read into it too much.

Many of the oil life monitors do NOT monitor oil life, just the events that affect oil life:
Cold Starts
Time at Temp
Running Time
Time at full and near full throttle
etc.

True, but a bit better than simply counting the miles... But then again, it's probably a way for Honda to sell more service.
