Unhappy needed new batteries for my 03 EXLRES silver

at 70,000 miles, the delphi/honda battery just went dead and had to call the hondacare for a jumpstart. It started alright and the next morning, started the same without problems but have made the decision to replace the battery with a new one. apparently honda is not using the delphi battery anymore and gave me 50% credit towards the new battery which is honda oem with 100 month limited warranty, 3 year full replacement prorated after that. after looking at the specs, unfortunately, it only has 550 CCA unlike the diehard silver I installed in my sigma which has 660 CCA.

who is making their batteries now, any info from the other members? Is this the same batteries for the 06 pilots too? The helpful service manager said it is, but I did not check.

Do you drive it every day, or did the car sit?

I doubt the battery was completely bad if a jump got you going and it started fine the next day?

How dead was it? Cranked but would not start? Just Clicked? Did nothing?

How much was the Honda battery with the 50% off?

It is the schoolbus for the kids and the one we use for long trips
My 3 year old watches the DVD with the engine off and there was no problem then and did not expect anything at all and would keep it for a few minutes and longer with no failure. This time however, the battery went totally flat, nothing, not even the power to operate the power locks. It started immediately after the jumpstart but the ECU needed to relearn itself as the yellow engine light turned on. After leaving it overnight, it started with the yellow light still on and after idling it for a few minutes, it disappeared.

Since this is my wife daily driver for the kids, I decided to have a new battery. the dealer checked it and said it did have internal failure and recommended replacement anyway.

OEM battery was $50, new would be $100+. Had the oil changed then, the same M1 0W/20 and VTM fluid replaced plus the battery was $190 total with taxes.

BTW, after looking at Sears, they have the Diehard Gold North with 700CCA for $80 + taxes with same warranty as the honda, 100 month limited warranty, three year full replacement and prorated after that. I guess they don't make the silver anymore

I bet something was left on.

However, with that said, I certainly understand the "Risk vs. Reward" calculation being as it is the wife's car. (Been there, done that, have the scars)

I usually go for Costco or Sam's club batteries in the $40 range.
