Default Brake Rotors

Anyone use the Brembo rotors yet?

Any reports on durability? Warping?

I'm using them on my Tacoma right now. I've heard really good things about them on most Toyota boards and decided to change them. I've only had them on for 1000 miles or so, but they really seem to work well. I haven't heard about the rotors warping on any of the boards yet, but I'll keep an eye out.

Default Brembo Rotors

My Pilot is still new , but I've had them on two other cars with good results. One caution however: the regular Brembo rotors do not seem to have any sort of rust-resistant coating on them, and they will develop surface rust on the hub and edges pretty quickly, depending on where you live. I did experience this with both of my sets. I don't think this is the case with their drilled and slotted rotors. You can go to tirerack.com and see the difference in the color between these -- the drilled and slotted rotors appear to be treated. I have read recommendations elsewhere on the web to paint the sides of the hub (not the surface where the hub mates with the wheel) with hih-temp paint before installation if this appearance is going to be bothersome with your particular wheels.

Using them on my Jetta...not drilled or slotted, and I haven't had any issues with 10k miles.

I want to say that they stop better, but I'm pretty sure that's just a placebo effect.

Well they are 1/2 the cost of the Honda parts, so I am going to get a set.

I got the standard Brembo rotors from Tirerack. They even came with new screws to hold them to the hub. No problems so far. Just make sure you use a Torque Wrench to tighten your wheels to avoid your new rotors from warping.

My TOUAREG comes standard with Brembos... and with this being the first set of Brembos I've owned.... I'm very impressed with the entire brake system.

The brakes really stop this 5300 pound fat-ass on a dime with no warping problems.

Yeah, Brembos are nice. This is the first time I've heard of them standard on a SUV. Just hope none of the calipers go bad out of warranty as they are quite expensive.

the touareg doesn't come with brembo rotors or even calipers, maybe the cayenne but not the regs unless it is an '06 option.

The brakes on all TOUAREGs in the U.S. from 2004 to now use Brembo brake systems.

There have been people who have had to do front brake jobs with rotor replacements and had bills in the 800-dollar neighborhood!!

70 to 0 in 189 feet, not bad for 5300 pounds

This is what I don't like about those "cool" name brand brake systems. Usually the only thing you are getting over standard brakes is the ability to beat on them without them fading. The standard brakes would lock up the wheels just fine (if not for ABS) for an emergency stop. If my brembos needed replacement, I would probably just bolt on the standard calipers for a LOT LESS, ex. pre 2005 G35, track 350Z & TL 6sp.

Sticky tires are a major factor to braking.

If driven hard, wouldn't some of the brand name systems cost be made up by the cost of not having to replace/resurface the OEM rotors several times because Honda's are prone to rotor warpage?

If I drove the car hard on the track, then yes, I would keep and replace the superior brake components, but since I don't, that's why I was saying I would replace with the standard parts.

BTW, I'm sure you could just buy some slotted rotors instead of the OEM ones if you really wanted to. Those are less prone to warping.

I had to have the rotors turned on my PILOT at 14k miles and Honda wouldn't warranty it... so I had to pay to have them fixed -- which frosted me a bit.

After seeing that others had warping problems, at least I knew it wasn't just me. Of course, when this happened, the PILOT was still relatively new on the street.
