Default Severe Driving condition, change oil filter every 3750m without changing Engine oil?

hi Guys,
I was try to follow the Severe Driving Condition maintance.

There is a "change engine oil filter at 3750 miles". Does it means replace both the engine oil and the filter?

is it possible to just replace the oil filter? would it cause a leak and drain the engine oil?

coming to my first 3750miles soon

thanks for you help

SEVERE conditions mean you change the oil AND the filter at the same time. And if you wanted to you could just change the filter only and no it would not leak out the rest of the oil from the engine.

but read some where in this forums, that the first oil change suppose to be 7500 miles because Honda have "special" engine oil for new pilot ?

so maybe I should just replace the oil filer. (never done it on car, but on bike long time ago)

and I guess , I need to topped up the engine oil after I replace the filter.

thanks

Yes, under the NORMAL maintenance schedule you would change it at 7500, but I believe if you follow the SEVERE schedule it should be 3750. You can always refer to your owner's manual if you are still uncertain.

How are you driving that requires the severe schedule?

I think that would qualify as SEVERE schedule in my book.

You should keep the first oil change to 7500 because of the break in additives they use in the first oil.

Why don't you recommened he follow the OWNERS MANUAL.

If it is severe use you floow the severe schedule.

The first oil change should be done "On Time", not "Early".

If you are following the severe schedule, then "on time" is 3750 miles.

Is there not something about the first oil change being different?

"Do not change the oil until the RECOMMENDED (emphasis added) time or mileage interval shown in the maintenance schedule."

There is the quote! Any questions?

Yes, one more.
If there are some added break in ingredients, that help the engine somehow, would it not become a choice of following the the RECOMMENDED maintenance sched, or the benefit of the break in oil? Which would do your engine more good?

If you are using it in a severe manner, then the wear is occurring faster and so is the break in.

If it was a big issue they would have addressed it directly.

Good point, never thought of it that way.
