I called for a quote on my 97 Odyssey. They want $625 for the belts and water pump. Sounds in the ballpark based on others experience. What floored me was what they wanted to change the AT fluid ($130) and brake fluid ($110). They claim that they are hooked up to some machine and actually 'flushed', not just changed. Price/Action seems way too high when the Owners Manuals call for a simple change.
Called an independent for another quote (they've done some work for me in the past - great guys). Said they don't do belts on the vans...too hard to work on. But, he also said that he would never change the brake fluid. It is a working fluid only and changing it would probably create more problems (air, etc) then it would fix/prevent, especially at the $110 price tag. Any thoughts on this? Hondaman2?

The maintenance schedule for the Pilot calls for the brake fluid to be changed every three years, regardless of mileage.

Read bthe thread above this topic regarding AT change. It can be drained (which drains about half the fluid) or pumped out by machine to machine process. Check to see how they do it. Obviously just draining is cheaper.

To change the brake fluid, wouldn't you just keep bleeding it all out while adding new fluid into the reservoir? Why would that cost $110?
My mechanic did it for me for $10.
