Default Replaced rear rotors and pads at 36k miles!!

Just had my rear rotors and brake pads replaced by a local mechanic because the right rear outside pad was metal on metal. Ruined the right rear rotor. Replaced both rear rotors and pads. Called dealer that sold me the Pilot and they sold that's a wear item. Seems way to fast for the rear brakes to be replaced/fixed!! Need to go to the next level. Anyone have a number for Honda that I can call directly. Anyone think I'll have any luck covering this under warranty from Honda? I have kept the parts from the mechanic for show and tell.

That's way too fast for the rear brakes to need replacement, unless you drove around with the parking brake on. Sounds like you had a frozen caliper. Did you ever have it serviced at a dealership before because it seems they should have noticed how much the rears had worn?

As for whether you will collect, doubt it, but it certainly doesn't hurt to try. Good thing you have the parts too, that can only help.

Good luck.

Default 12 months/12,000 miles

Also, when I spoke to the Honda Service guy he stated the brakes are only covered under warranty for 12 months/12,000 miles. Don't have my warranty manual or owners manual in front of me. Is this correct?

I agree, but that doesn't mean they won't look at your case. I understand that rotors and pads are wear items, but a frozen caliper may not be considered a standard wear item. Definitely give it a shot.

Nope. Not a chance unless you can show a defect in the parts.

Default Pads

The wear is probably not that unusual. The Pilot has electronic brake distribution that distributes the braking from the front to rear more evenly depending on load and grade. This would most likely mean that the typical more wear on the fronts would be more distributed to both front and rear. I have replaced plenty of brake pads on different cars with no more than 36,000 miles on them.
