Default OEM Oil Filter Number?

Anyone know the Honda number for the Honda Oil Filter on an '05 Pilot? As best I can determine (crawling under the vehicle & looking) my blue Honda filter says: Filtech 4K16. Is that right?

Hey thanks, as a brand new Pilot owner I didn't know and was really wondering. That's interesting. The factroy installed filter is made by Filtech, but apparently one can only buy the Fram-made Honda filter afterwards. Oh well. They all say Honda on the outside.

Stock gets mixed in from time to time.....we get a couple part number variances depending on where the filter's made.

Having been with Honda for a decade and never seeing a bad engine, I wouldn't worry about the quality of any Honda product

What's wrong with using a larger filter. We've tested several larger filters along with a Honda filter. The pressure relief valve pops at the same pressure. The larger filter has a smaller delta at 100F which I think would be better for the engine. The larger area should filter better because the same amount of oil would trave just a bit slower through the media and there would be a bit more area to store the bad stuff. I am not concerned with all the logistics of a supply line for spares and think that a little larger is a little better.

I would stay away from the 15400-PLM-A02 that is made by Fram in Canada. It replaced the 15400-P0H-305 made by Filtech in the U.S..

The 15400-P0H-305 was replaced by the 15400-PLM-A02 and 15400-PLM-A01, except for the Honda S2000 application. Honda began to import the 15400-PCX-004 for the S2000 when they discontinued the 15400-P0H-305. (Filtech is a subsidiary of Toyo Roki, supplier of most filters for Honda in Japan.)

15400-PCX-004 is made by Toyo Roki in Japan.

there are three filters that are the same size (the new smaller one)

15400-PLM-A01 - made by Filtech
15400-PLM-A02 - made by FRAM
15400-PLC-004 - made by Toyo Roki

i dont know why everyone hates fram so much. yes, the filter looks a bit cheaper than the Filtech and Toyo Roki ones, but i have never heard of a fram filter causing engine damage or anything like that. if honda puts their name on it, they obviously think its good enough to put into their cars. my dad has always used fram oil filters and never had a single problem with them.

Any one of those filters are good enough to get you through the warranty period. If you want better, try something like the Mobil 1 filter, or maybe an Amsoil SDF filter. Better costs more and is an over kill if you're going to bail during the warranty. If you don't believe in better, don't waste your money.

Try this http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/

JungleJim-
Do all the oil filters you mention have pressure relief values? Thanks

I've owned Hondas and Acuras since the early 80's and didn't have a problem using the factory filters and would only use them until they came out with the smaller one. After also cutting the several filters apart and inspecting, I now prefer to use the Wix, (same as NAPA gold) Purlator 1, or Nippon (old OEM Filter, in fact it uses the same old part number). The price is right and the quility is equal to the now factory filter. Fil-tech! who the hell is that. It's a company that out bid everybody else for Honda's filter contract by being cheap! think about it!

Filtech is part of Toyo Roki, i believe. the Filtech and Toyo Roki filters are basically identical, and are the "better" of the OEM Honda filters out now. the Filtech filters arent the "cheap" ones, they are the "good" ones.

Sitting in front of me is a brand new Honda oil filter in shrink wrap. However, after reading this thread, the part number on the red and white Honda label which reads "Made in Canada" is 15400-PT7-005. This number does not match any in this thread for the Pilot. Which enigne does this fit? Thanks for the help.

I just looked at the filter I just replaced and it says S42601, American Honda parts Made in Canada, and it also has Honeywell on it.

It is the only part number I can find on it.

It sounds to me like both will fit the Pilot.....the PT7 lists for 88 and up Integras and RL/TL/CL, which now take the newer filter, so it should work fine (just compare the gasket seating surfaces of the filters).
