Bleeding Brake Lines - Honda Pilot

I've been lurking around the Odyclub website and have noticed that those guys are big on bleeding the brakes every two to three years.

I searched but did not find anything on our site. What do you guys think of this practice?

The maintenance section of the Owner's Manual say to replace the brake fluid every three years independent of mileage.

Good topic.
I bleed my motorbike lines every year. The junk that accumulates there is amazing.

Brake fluid is too friendly with moisture, and it is best to flush it our every 2-3 years. I would agree with the Oddy guys and gals.

On the wife's Volvo it is a 2 year service as well.

Does anyone here know how to do it properly that can show us, or would you recommend having Honda do it?

I just called my dealer and for a bleed/flush they want $110. Ouch!!!

Why can't you just take a turkey baster and remove the fluid from the master cylinder and refill it with new fluid every year or so???

I wanted the factory NAV with bluetooth handsfree car kit for the cell phone, and was able to work an end of the year deal so I didn't get screwed totally royally on the trade. Plus, there's something to be said for waiting until the 2nd model year, even with quality cars like Honda, Acura, Toyota and Lexus.

You still have dirty/contaminated brake fluid in the brake lines. The best thing is to bleed the brake lines every 2 years.

You need to get the fluid out of the lines and the calipers.

Use the turkey baster to change the fluid in the master cylinder, then do a break bleed till you get clean fluid at each wheel.

That's what I do w/ all my cars. I usually have somebody help me out when changing the brake fluid.

It's usually a good idea to start with the brake that's farthest from the master cylinder and work your way back. So start with the right rear, then the left rear, right front, left front. That's the way I do it.
