I am about to hit my warranty expiration with 35,370 miles currently on my 03 EX. I was wondering if anyone has had their Pilot looked over by the dealer or other knowledgable mechanic for any possible final warranty work. If so, where did you take it, what did they check, and how much did it cost? I have noted all interior/exterior malfunctions but I have no idea where to begin as far as the drivetrain and other associated parts (under the hood stuff). I personally think that a final inspection should be done by the dealership at no cost on all vehicles but that's just my opinion (I'm a real cheapskate). Anyhow, I'm also contemplating purchasing an extended warranty before I hit 36K to avoid a larger fee later on, if I decide to buy it at a later time, and I was just wondering if anyone has advise on this. Obviously I need to shop around for this extended warranty and not just settle for what the local dealership is offering. What are the chances that I will even need this extended warranty, seeing how this is a Honda and there are many out there that are 10+ years old and are still running strong? I would rather pay for an extended warranty vs paying for expensive repairs that would equal to more than the warranty price, but if the warranty is not likely to get used, I would rather not spend the money on the extra insurance. All replies, good, bad, funny, or stupid are all appreciated!

Your idea of a pre-end-of-warranty expiration checkup is a smart thing to do. If you bring your Pilot to a dealer for routine work, ask them to check things over for you. Not sure what they would charge you but approx 1 hour labor should cover it. When we were planning our drive from NY to FL, I brought our minivan to our mechanic for a thorough once over. He ran off a list for us of all the stuff he does for his customers when they ask for this type of service... check/adjust all suspension components, steering, brakes, belts, hoses, battery, fluid levels, oil change & lube... and more. The total bill for this was approx $125. I think it was about $75 for labor the rest were parts (oil, filter, brake cleaner...) & tax. As for extended warranty do a search for Curry Honda to start. Alot of people here have said they offer the best prices online. As for needing it... ya never know! One bill could pay for itself and it also depends on how long you plan on keeping your Pilot.

Hey there,
Our dealership suggests a inspection of the vehicle just before the end of the 35,000k. We only suggest this to customer's that would like to know future preventive maintence suggestions. However here it is rare that the waranty ends at 36,000 because we offer a FREE 100,000 optional owners protection plan that basically requires all service to be done here and we extend the power train waranty to 100,000 from the original 36,000K. We feel that 36,000 is a little week from the manufacturer seeing we all know the given reliablitly of buying a Honda. Give the very high resale value of the Pilot my customers seemingly never miss a routine service in order to keep the value so high. Especially when comparing to the "others" out there.
