Default Did you get an exteneded warranty?

So who knows the specifics about the extended Hondcare warranty?

Every dealer probably sells their own extended warranty (a.k.a. extended service agreement) and the actual Hondacare warranty from the factory. Some may even be promoting their own extened warranty as "Hondacare".

Okay, so I know a lot more know than I did two years ago when I got my "extended warranty". The extended warranty I have came from the dealer, not directly from Honda and getting work done requires approval.

I don't like it and I'm thinking of dumping it and signing up for Hondacare.

If you get the actual Hondacare factory extended warranty, are the benefits just like the 3/36 factory warranty? Does it cover all the same components? Does it cover "diagnosed but no problem found"?

I've been browsing the forums for info, but most of the references are for dealer warranties, some of which claim to be Hondacare, but still read like dealer warranties.

Please chime in if you have the actual Hondacare warranty or if you've had to make a claim on your extended warranty.

Thanks

Tim, if you've had your warranty a long time, I would think that you will only get a partial (pro-rated) refund on your service contract if you cancel it to sign up for a Hondacare agreement.

I would probably stick with it at this point. If it were earlier in the game I would tell you to cancel it and get the Hondacare.

Also, I would edit your poll to include an option for "I do not have a contract now, but plan to add it." That's were I would fit in. For now I voted "no extended warranty for me." However I strongly believe in extended service contracts and in particular factory backed Hondacare. I will more than likely add Hondacare just before 24 mos or 24,000 miles as long as I am still thinking about keeping the Pilot long term when I reach that time.

Is that when the price increases slightly, at 24k? I too am thinking about it before the initial warranty expires. I don't generally buy extended warranties, but the Honda tranny has me thinkin' otherwise since we're generally quite happy with the P and plan on keeping it for a while.

FamilyGuy, I would need a moderator to change the polling options, but I see your point. I was thinking more about people who already had a service contract when I made the poll.

Yes, I would get a prorated rebate for about 58% of what I paid. I'm going to stay with what I have now, because I'm out of the Honda factory warranty and I can no longer add Hondacare. The service contract I have claims to have all the same benefits as Hondacare. The only drawback is work has to be approved in advance - it's more seamless when getting Hondacare work done at a Honda service shop.

robrecht, if you find out the details for pricing and price increases per mileage, please post for others. Thanks.

I've had trouble finding details on Hondacare and pricing. I've found service contracts claiming to be Hondacare, but they have all ended up being backed by an insurance company somewhere else, and not from Honda.

You may want to check on this, I was told that you can get the Hondacare warranty up to 42,000 miles (although it will be slightly more!).

My dealer told me this when I bought our Accord.

....and remember to keep very good records with receipts. Trying to get something covered that is in dispute it like going to war. Always have resources at hand, even if you don't use them. Document every phone call, every person's name and title and time stamp everything. Claims can be expensive and you will have only one shot, before you go to small claims or other agency. Be sure to ask at the beginning of the process exactly how much you are expected to do in the way of records and proff of maintenance and purchase.

I'm a bit gunshy becuase a neighbor had an oil sludge problems with a Durango at 40k miles, two years ago (check Durrango and sludge in your internet search engine). I gave him a ride to the dealer when they explained what happened. They said his receipts only proved that oil was purchased by someone, but not that is was put in his engine. It was all his fault for not changing the oil. The log book showed oil and filter changes every 3k miles. I had to walk him out of the service manager's office to avoid an explosion. The manufacturer's rep was just as bad. The neighbor won in small claims court for the full $4,500, and money for a rental car for 7 weeks, plus the judge threw out another $3,000 that was never authorized or signed for, based on receipts and the log book. When we picked up the Durango is was dirty, hand prints everywere and stains on the upholostry. The Durango was sent to a detailer and for almost $200 was cleaned up. The dealer paid after the suggestion was made that it would go right back to small claims court.

So, keep good records and receipts. I know he did the changes because he borrowed my ramps and drain pan.
And he sold the Durango the month he got it back and bought a Pilot after doing the demo ride shuffle with me.

You can get prices and details for a true HondaCare warranty from Curry Honda. When you give them your email address, they even email you with a discount code for $70 to $90 off the listed price. Good company to do business with, as well.

I was told last week by two different dealers that you can't add Hondacare if you are already out of warranty. Here's what it says on Honda's website. If you want to browse to it yourself, go to hondacars.com, select Pilot and scroll to "Honda Care" at the bottom right corner of the page.

Honda Care info on Hondacars.com
Plans and Eligibility
Honda Care plans are available with terms ranging from 4 years/60,000 miles up to 7 years/100,000 miles. Honda vehicles within the original-factory-warranty period are eligible. Ask your Honda dealer for details.
As I've said before, many dealers will sell you a service contract at any time up to 42,000 miles, but it isn't really Hondacare. I haven't seen a thread here yet that actually went to Honda's Extended warranty and not a Dealer's service contract.

Talking Renegotiated my warranty

Thanks for this thread!!!! And thanks for the link to Curry Honda!!! This thread prompted me to contact my selling dealer and renegotiate my extended warranty. When I bought our Pilot I felt that the dealer did a bait and switch on the warranty (shame on me for not noticing at the dealership). Anyway, back in June I ended up negotiating a 6yr/75k Warranty with a $50 deductible for $980 from the dealer back when we bought the Pilot. I later found out that this was NOT a Honda backed warranty, even though that's what we were talking about during our negotiating (READ THE FINE PRINT PEOPLE!!!). This warranty also required me to go to Peter's for all my extended warranty work (no thanks!).

Fast forward to yesterday... After reading this thread I contacted our dealer, Peter's Honda in Nashua, NH. Adam Green from Peter's has agreed to refund our money and cancel the third party warranty. In it's place Adam has agreed to match Curry's quote for a 6yr, 75k, $0 deductible Honda Care Extended Warranty. Our new price will be $840.00!!! And we will be receiving a $115 refund (we had to pay a $25 usage fee for not canceling within the first 60 days - it was in the contract).

So again, thanks to this thread I just increased my warranty coverage with a much better "Honda backed" warranty, and I'm getting some money back in return!

Thanks all!!!!!
MMM
