I think at 30K, you need the tranny service done and the vtm fluid changed out.

I'm not sure what the tranny service runs, but most feel the vtm can by done by a weekend mechanic for about 25-30 dollars. (all you need is a gallon of honda's finest, a pump from the local auto parts store and something to catch the fluid in)

I just had my tranny fluid flushed by the dealer at 33K miles. They charged me $50.95, I did the VTM myself.

I think it is the rear tranfer case to drive the rear wheels.

FYI, the Pilot doesn't have a transfer case in the typical sense. But, yes, the VTM fluid is lubricating the clutches (?) in the rear wheel drive.

It is the rear diff fluid, with a rec of changing it every 15,000 miles. If you search the forums you will that hondaman2 , our resident Honda tech, has posted instructions on various maintenance items (other memebrs have posted as well too!). You should be able to find some simple to follow directions for this service and other easy DIY items. We had the dealer do ours as it was about 50 bucks, and I thought it would just worth it to have them do it, saving me the time and providing piece of mind. Good luck with the Pilot!!
