I have an 05 pilot and the front upper oxygen sensor went. I talked to the dealer and they want $185 for it but I found one at wholesale for $123. Can anyone do any better?

I've always had decent luck with the generic replacements from Bosch and so forth. You just have to solder the bare wires to those of the old one. I don't remember spending more than about $80 at autozone or oreillys for 'em.

For the $40 delta, I'd likely go for the Honda part myself as well, but the pauperized shaggers who ask me to change O2 sensors for 'em are usually 1. Cheap, and 2. In a hurry.
With that said, I've no idea if there's actually a significant qualitative difference between OEM and name brand aftermarket. However, the mechanical protrusion into the exhaust gas flow can look surprisingly different on the aftermarket parts which could I suppose make a difference. Never had a problem with them though. I have at least one that's been in regular service for 8 years, though probably only 60 or 70,000 miles.

Yea, I have used aftermarket in the past and been ok. I do know that Toyota/Lexus cars absolutely hate aftermarket sensors. Not sure about Honda though. Not worth messing with to me if you can come up with a few extra $'s.

I'm not sure if this applies to the Pilot, but when I had to replace an O2 sensor on the CRV I learned that it hated Bosch aftermarket sensors. I ended up spending the few extra dollars and buying the OE Denso part. Other's have had this same problem over at hondasuv.

Yea I've talked to a few mechanics and they said that your better off going through Honda for the part. A lot better quality and last a lot longer. I just wasn't sure if anyone had tried the aftermatket themselves and if it was worth it or not

Very interesting.
All my experience in putting aftermarket O2 sensors in Hondas has been in Civics and Accords, nothing bigger. Perhaps the trucks/SUVs are less tolerant for some reason. More likely I just got lucky, I imagine.

I'm with the 'Scion... (that does sound weird on a Honda board). Generic wins-though its rare for the sensors to fail.
