I understand the notion that the head rest is supposed to protect you in an accident. I too believe that it should and could be more comfortable, but that is not the subject here. What I keep wondering is how can the headrest design be more safe? Does it sound right to you: I'm 6'0" - In an accident the forward slant of the headrest means that the back of my head will hit the top of the headrest first - next my neck will need to bend backward quite a bit - chin toward the chest to match the concave nature of the headrest/seat configuration - and last the sholders will then hit the seatback. Why is this better or more safe? Is that a body's normal configuration in a crash? Any thoughts? Wouldn't it be better to not have your neck wedged into the v created by the headrest and seat?

Yeah well feel like after three years she "the" girlfriend. Meaning just a step below the wife. Did I say wife, look at what you got me saying.

In reference to the pillow, your neck goes inside the hole and it does give you support, which means it pushes you forward. It does not push you forward so that it is uncomfortable though. It basically keeps you from lower neck pain. The top of your head can still touch the headrest if you want it to. Hey for $7.99 just go buy it.

There are a few sharp witted responses I could make to some of those statements but I'd probably just get myself in trouble.

I'll remember to pick up a neck pillow next time I'm in Target. Thanks.

Default My solution works great!

Read my ealier post on my solution. Been living with the strap on headrest addition for a year and no real complaints. While the foam is a little soft compared to what a typical headrest is, the net result is that it has gone from a major irritant to essentially a non-problem. THis works for both me and the passenger.

Question Headrest Replacements?

Does anyone know if the front headrests can be replaced with more comfortable ones, like from the Accord, Odyssey, or MDX? I have searched for this and can't find anything. I know they are not adjustable, but they are just plain uncomfortable too.

As I have said before in previous discussions on tnis subject, they are NOT head resst. Tthey are head restraints to prevent whiplash injuries, not to lay back and be comfortable.

Thanks for the clarification. Anyway, the head RESTRAINTS in other vehicles, like my Accord, actually protect me AND are comfortable. So does anyone know if they can be switched out with other Honda or Acura head RESTRAINTS?

A quick search reveals that this was discussed ad nauseum here: Replacement headrests anyone?

Mods: Wanna append this thread to the one above?

Is it safe to say then, with the length of this thread, that no one has ever seen the Pilot head RESTRAINT switched out with any other Honda or Acura head RESTRAINT, that is equally safe but more comfortable?

If there are any Honda dealers out there, maybe you could swap them between an Oddy and a Pilot, or an Accord and Pilot to see if they are at least compatible.

Article below from CNN on head restraints in cars. According to the IIHS, head restraints in new cars are far more effective than they used to be. The Pilot's head restraint seems to have done fine.

What makes it worse is the fact that the owners manual says they headrests are "adjustable".

csmoore: The Owners Manual only says the 2nd and 3rd row head restraints are adjustable for height...
