Default Help with oil near transmission, what is it?

(2006 Pilot, 73k miles)

While doing an oil change this morning I noticed this. It might be engine oil but I'm not sure. It's not dripping to the floor or anything but it's definately there. It's on the side of the transmission very close to the oil pan drain plug.

I remember someone saying once about a seal of some sort but I'm not certain. Any know what this is, and well basically how much or is it DIY'able?

Thank You.

First thing that comes to mind is a possible rear main seal leak. I had a similar situation on my 2005 Pilot at 135,000 miles.
Turned out that the rear main seal was not leaking but a small O ring above that was the culprit. It was completely
flattened out by a bad previous installation on the vehicle at some point.
Unfortunately the labor involved is ridiculously expensive and not something that I feel comfortable in tackling myself.
I certainly hope this is not the problem in your case but definitely keep us posted.

About the only way to get oil there is like cofetym says - rear main seal or the o ring above it. Having recently changed a RMS on 05 Pilot I can tell you it is not a DIY job for the timid.

That is not much of a leak and I would not tear into it to fix until it gets bad enough to drip. What I would do is pick up a new PCV valve. Is cheap and takes only a minute (literally) to change. If the PCV isn't working properly it seems to make them more prone to leak.

Could be you rear main seal leaking. Take off that black access plate to be sure. It's in the same spot but the oil is on the front bolt but not the back. Air flows front to rear so you would see more oil splatter toward the rear of the car. Look up toward the front of the motor and take a look at the valve covers.
