Default Brake noise when coming to hard stop.

Hello, I have a 2004 Honda Pilot with 112k miles on it. I have an issue whenever I come to a really hard stop the car will make a hard humming noise. I think it is coming from the front brakes but I have taken the car to Les Schwab and they did a complete break check and said rotors, pads, and calipers all looked fine and brand new. They said the sound could be due to brake dusk accumulating and therefore making the sound. The sound sounds really bad and want to know if this a big problem or indeed just brake dust. I just wanted to see what you guys thought and if anyone else has had this problem.

Spray some water with your garden hose on the rotor and try to get it between the rotor and calipers to get the dust out. Drive it around the block a couple times and see fi the sound is still there. If it is, then it's not brake dust that's causing the sound.

Yes, so I do beleive it is brake dust. Whenever I get the car washed it doesnt make the sound until about a week later. So is this just due to crappy brake pads or what? The sound is really annoying and wanted to know if anyone else had a problem with brake dust buld up?

If it's bothering you that much then change the pads back to Honda ones and you'll be none the wiser.

Default Brake noise when coming to hard stop.

Yeah ABS pump in action. Try anticipating traffic better and avoid found emergency stops

What did you do to eventually fix it? Did you just change the pads or just live with the noise?

I dont think its the ABS, I have driven hondas my whole life, Ive had two civics, an accord, and now drive a TL. This is the first car ive experienced this in. Unless the ABS is known to kick in on the Pilots more than the other models?

i have a similar prob on a 05, except its just the front left brake, after a few "firm" stops(im assuming the brakes heat up enough after that) under any braking i will hear a thumping noise, almost like "duga duga duga" its louder with harder braking and faster at higher speed, it can also be just barely felt in the brake pedal. To the best of my (very limited) knowledge it feels as if the pad/caliper have a chunk missing or uneven surface that causes the pad/caliper to suddenly catch on one another, ive had my tires rotated and ect and the looked at my brakes and didnt see any problems,(i feel they might have just looked at them with out inspecting them), any sugestions

I had the same issue, and didn't see anything noteworthy upon visual inspection. I'm not sure exactly what caused it, but my guess was that it might have been from the rusty ridge formed on the outer edge of the brake rotor, rubbing on either the caliper frame metal or the top edge of the pad. Like you, it only happened on harder stops at higher speeds. The noise I had similar to yours came from the rear though.

The noise never returned after I changed the rear pads and rotors, which were due for replacement anyway.

Mine are coming from the font breaks as well. It isnt making a duga duga noise but more like a foghorn going off.

Change the brakes to OEM honda stuff and i'll bet it's gone. Happens all the time, especially with low quality A/M parts. Some of the higher quality stuff works just fine.
