Default This sealant doesn't look stock

I've had my 07 Pilot for a week and was looking around under the hood and noticed some pretty clean looking white sealant. I took a pic with my phone, sorry it's a little out of focus. I wonder what the story is with it?

Where did you purchase the Pilot from, certified dealer or a private seller. If from a CD take it back and see if they had to do some repairs on it before they sold it to you, maybe?

It was a Honda dealer, I'm not sure if that makes them automatically certified or not. Capital Honda | New & Used Honda Dealer in Okemos | Serving Lansing, Jackson MI & Waverly. It's a bit of drive but maybe I'll email them a picture and see what they have to say.

They should be certified, it resembles JB Weld to me. Whomever did the repair was not very cautious/careful with it.

Doesn't seem to be leaking, I'm not sure if I should be concerned or just let it be.

Where is that?

Is it hard or soft?

Is it a metal piece?

Front valve cover. The white "sealant" is hard.

Probably a ham-fisted way to fix a valve-cover oil leak.

That's what I'm thinking, too. The vertical part concerns me a little, almost like there is a crack. I'll just keep an eye on it and maybe just replace the cover and gasket in the spring or summer when it's warm again.

I would not consider that a proper fix for a dealer.

If the part is cracked it could be replaced.

If it is JB Weld, maybe it just cleaned up nicely when the dealership cleaned the engine bay.

Cracked valve cover repaired with JB weld or grey silicone by a monkey on crack. AFAIK just because it's from a Honda dealer it's not automatically Honda certified. Still, I'd go back to the dealer and have them check it out.

FYI - the plastic engine cover comes off real easy if you want a better look. Just turn the 3 plastic screw heads 90 degrees and it pops right off. I can see more of that glop towards the left.

I don't want to create paranoia but if the valve cover is cracked, I doubt this sort of thing happens spontaneously in service very often. I'd suspect that it happened when the valve cover was off for some reason. Which begs the question of why the valve cover has been off on a relatively low-mileage vehicle.

Honda , on occasion has had some problems with porosity of aluminum castings.

Still should have been replaced.
