I would say that most of the time at roughly 40mph, around the transitition of 3rd gear, a vibration or flap noise becomes apparent for about 2-3 seconds and never longer. It doesnt do it at any other speed and is a bit mind boggling. It doesn't do it every single time, and the noise is not very loud but noticable. It sounds almost like when you put a baseball card on the front tire of a bicycle when we were kids to get the flapping motorcycle sound.
Also, I have been told that in roughly ~10,000 I need to replace the timing belt. Not sure if this has anything to do with it but I just thought I would throw it in there. When I do replace the timing belt, would it be a good idea to go ahead and replace the water pump at that time? Thanks |

With the timing belt it's not a bad idea to do the water pump at the same time. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Dealing with your your noise. Are you sure your rear windows are completely closed? IF mine 04 Pilot are slightly open I get a buffeting noise at about that speed. Just a thought. Another thing to check is are your roof rails tight? Good Luck |

Yes, the sound is without a doubt coming from the engine and the windows are always up in the back due to the buffering sound. I do think i will replace the pump too but I can't expect to pay any less that $500 for it. I wouldnt go as far and say that it was a grinding noise but more so as it you run over the rumble strips for a brief second at 40mph.
Thanks |
