Default Torn gas cap seal

I tried to search first for gas cap but couldn't find anything.
So anyways, I had the engine light come and looking in the book it mentions the loose gas cap. I always tighten to hear the click and double checked. took it in to honda and they said its a emission code and only thing they can find is torn gas cap seal. they wanted over 40 bucks for a new gas cap. I told him not to worry about it and Ill get one at auto zone or pep boys. Honda guy said it might not seal right and I might get the engine light again. Anyone else have this problem? will non honda gass cap not work?

What you got was a load of dealer BS. Have the code cleared fill up and tighten the gas cap. If it comes back get a new gas cap. Code will eventually clear

Yeah, I also figured its bunch of BS. they cleared the code, and has not come on back on. but if it does come on, I'll get an OE replacement for $10.

If the seal is torn it could set the CEL. I would only use an OE cap as aftermarket ones don't always vent correctly and can can lead to more CEL's. An OE cap is only $16 from Tim anyway. Discount Honda and Acura parts and accessories - OEM Acura Parts
