I have a 2006 Pilot EX-L that currently will not run my nav system or back up camera (assuming they are tied in together). When I start the SUV, it says "downloading, please wait" then says "check disk". The nav system will not switch to the camera in the reverse gear. Of note, this error happened right after my husband had to get a hot shot after accidentally draining the battery. I briefly spoke to a mechanic and he thinks that I need to replace my DVD drive (at least $650) . I already need new brakes and tires and don't want to spend the money unnecessarily. Uggh! Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't sound good, but let's see what we can find out. Take the DVD out of the drive and take a look at it, if it's not scratched or damaged, then it's quite likely that the drive is shot. Swapping in another, known good navigation disk from your dealer is one good diagnostic test. You can also read off the data on the DVD in a computer DVD drive to validate it, though the details of how to do that exceed the scope of this post. If, by some happy chance, the navigation DVD drive won't eject the disk, you might just have blown a fuse.
