Default Not being able to move the shifter

The "click" when you push down on the brake sometimes doesn't click. Then I can't get the pilot out of park. The safety to keep it from rolling doesn't disengage. Once I push on the brake like a crazed maniac it finally starts clicking and I can drive. Any ideas? Anyone have this problem and knows the fix? I don't want to just throw money at a new switch and have it still not work. I swear I bought a lemon pilot.........

only thing i can think of is the brake pedal switch, if it is intermittent like you say. it probably isnt a very expensive part, might be able to return it if you hook it up and the problem persists. if it wereme i would just replace that switch and see.

Look in you manual, it will tell you to remove the plug on the plastic piece behind the steering wheel and stick you key in and push to get the car out of park. Then put it in netural and start you car.

Not the same vehicle sadly but I had a 2nd hand Nissan Xterra (ex-lease vehicle) with a sticky shift interlock solenoid. Got progressively worse till it wouldn't disengage at all (hand to poke a nail into the manual override hole) The shift interlock solenoid is the one near the actual transmission gear selector itself, it's what you're hearing click when you press the brake pedal. You don't say what year pilot, but if the selector is down on the center console, you might be having the same trouble we were, which was Coke spilled into the shift gate, gathered in the shift solenoid and evaporated to leave the sticky syrup. Washed it out, put it back together, worked fine till we sold it.

Of course, it might also be the brake switch, that's easy to test with a multimeter. I'd be more surprised if it was though.

I got the manual in front of me and I'll check it out. I'm going to price out the brake switch and hopefully that fixes the problem. Thanks guys!

On my 02 accord the swwitch was under $20 bucks if I remember right. When you push your brake pedal have someone see if your brake lights come on. When mine went bad in my Accord, the brake lights didnt work. So using the key to unlock the shifter may not be the safest way to go unless emergency to get home. Maybe the Pilot is different, but that is what happened with my Accord.

If it is the switch, its a piece of cake to replace. It is down by the brake pedal.
Good Luck
