Hi All,
I went to Advanced Auto Parts and purchased a new battery which came with free installation using the memory keeper tool but when I got home I realized that the Odometer jumped up from 82,500 to 87,500. This I couldn't overlook because I just had 4 new tires installed on 6/30/2011 and the receipts also states the mileage at 82,500. The radio and clock are fine. I have a 2005 Pilot EX-L. I bought the car in 2007 and it had 32,000 miles. I also have had 255x55x18's since 08. Any suggestions? I'm calling Honda and Advanced Auto on Tuesday. |

I've been searching online for an answer and what I've come across is 1) disconnect the negative post for 15 minutes then insert the ignition key before reconnect and 2) is to check to see if it's at KPH instead of MPH. The latter doesn't sound like the problem because I did the math and the mileage would have jumped to the 133k range.
A few web sites stated that it may have set the mileage reading of the vehicle using the larger tires which would added the additional 5% when the battery was changed. This adds up to the 87500 jump but I thought the computer calibrated the size difference automatically. This is weird to say the least. |

This doesn't sound possible. Are you sure the tire place didn't just copy the mileage down wrong when you got the tires changed? 82,500 sounds like too even a number to have been actual mileage. Also you said when you got home, it was 87,500. That too sounds like too even a number.
Something just doesn't sound right. I think human error is the factor here... not a technical issue with the odometer. |

Well I just tried the disconnecting of the positive terminal with the ignition on then reconnecting and nothing other than having to reset the clock and radio. (I had the code)
The possibility of human error did cross my mind but I am sure that I was at the 82/83k range and not so close to hitting 90k. I just called Advanced Auto and as someone mentioned prior, their clueless. I'm going to call Honda on Tuesday. There are multiple posts about a Class action lawsuit regarding Honda Pilot Odometer reading but I don't think they involve dramatic jumps just inaccuracies in MPH/KPH. |

Weird, how many miles was it from the tire shop to Advanced Auto to home? If it was 82500 at the tire shop then some odd number of miles should have rolled up on the odometer by the time you got home.

First of all I want to thank all of you Piloteers that responded. I appreciate you time and patience.
I sat down after my last post and thought how can I get a true reading of my odometer from a previous auto repair visit and I remembered that I had my oil changed at jiffy lube about 6 weeks ago. So I just called them and sure enough the odometer was at 86k+ miles. Human error at the tire shop for sure and my poor memory. That receipt from the tire shop really thru me off. Thanks again. |
