Default AC not working on 2004 EX

I have 2004 EX with almost 70K. The AC stopped working yesterday. I checked the fuses and the relays and they appear to be OK.

When I turn on the AUTO button, the display says FULL AUTO and the temp I set it to, however I do not hear or feel a compressor kick on and I do not feel air blowing from the front. After a few seconds I can here a very low fan which I found was the rear area fan blowing some air.

Even if I move to manuall mode and try to adjust where the air should come from or the fan speed I get nothing for the front and just the warm air blowing in the back.

I took a look at the video and found a place that sells that part however I had a couple of questions before I purchased the part.

1. The video showed manual controls, however with my digital controls I also turned the fan up to high, but it did not come on like it did in the video.

2. I also tried the diag by turning the ignition to II and press and hold Auto and OFF however I did not get any change in the display. It just sat at the temperature setting. I was expecting it to change to 88 or blank or something.

Given that the diags did not do anything and the fan does not come on when I put the setting to high on the digital display, could this still be the transistor assembly.

If you know someone with a voltmeter they could test it for you or contact your local Auto Parts Store. I know they will test some parts not sure about this one though. Removing that part doesn't seem difficult.

Don't go buying any parts until you have had the condenser checked for damage. Any shop can put in a dye that shows up leaks under the right light.

After each winter there is an uptick in the number of stone damaged and perhaps rotted out condensers as people start to turn theirs on.

Common failure points/leak areas for '03-'08 A/C system?

Thanks all, but I tried replacing the relay which took well over a week to get delivered, but I am still in the same boat. The rear fan will blow, but no air from the front and the compressor does not kick in.

I said previously that I was not getting an error code with the AUTO + OFF diagnostic test, but that was because I was doing it wrong. I do get a code which is the bottom of the right on the 88 display which I believe is interpreted as "N". I still got that code after replacing the resistor assembly.

Is there anything else I can check? I see people saying to test the blower fan. Is there a way to do that easily?

the resistor is just for fan control speed and has nothing to do with the actual compressor turning on. you need to have the system checked. The compressor wont kick on if pressure is too low as a safety measure so it wont blow

I have an 04 and my AC went out at around 70k too. Compressor would kick in but I would hear a hissing noise periodically. It was one of the hoses (upper or lower can't remember) that went bad. Covered under my extended warranty so I don't remember what the cost would have been.

If the pressure in the compressor was low and it did disable itself, what would that have to do with the fan not blowing? I regularly see users posting how their Pilots are only blowing warm air so the fan works even when the compressor does not.

The reverse is what is happening in my case. Since the fan is not blowing, the compressor does not turn on which I assume is to protect the compressor from freezing up.

I would like to test if the fan is bad first. Just not sure if the fan turns on by grounding or by applying power. Do I connect a 12 volt wire or ground it to test it. and which wire in the harness?

the fan has nothing to do with the compressor they are not connected at slightest as you can have the fan on and the compressor off like when you have heat. it sounds like you have a relay issue or a bad hvac control unit
