The two front door actuator were gone during the winter. I though it would take no time to replace them since I did once on the rear door a few years ago. I was totally wrong. I first popped out the handle spring. It took me 4 hrs to find it and put it back without removing the outer handle. Then I broke the bracket holding the lock cylinder switch.
My question is what does this switch do? The security stopped arming. Does this have anything to do with the switch? I guess the switch only works when key is used. It sends the signal to open the rear doors. This is just a guess. I won't fix it if it has nothing to do with the security system. Got two stubborn door screws. I'll seek help in garage before I totally strip the head. What a way to start the weekend. Thanks in advance. |

I replaced both front actuaries and the security system worked. So I concluded I can live without the lock cylinder switch. I glued the broken bracket with epoxy and put it back. As long as I don't use key to open the door, it should hold on.
I stripped two of the three door screw heads and used #2 Grabit to extract. Home depot carries M6-1.0 screws (slot head though). The length is either 25 mm or 30 mm instead of the original 1". I used the shorter ones. They work fine. |
